Go Up Go Down

Just wanted to introduce myself.  I started metal detecting along about 1973 with an old Garrett BFO machine.  I bought it from an older gentleman who had a shop on North Loop here in Austin.  That was before computers took over everything including our detectors and way before the various government entities tried to legislate our hobby into extinction.  It almost seems unbelievable now that I once detected on the grounds of our Texas state capitol.  I was careful with my recovery technique and no one seemed to think it was strange for me to be out there.  Found a ton of good stuff too.

I've mostly stayed with Garrett machines although there have been a few White's and a couple of other brands around here from time to time.  I'm not sure that the modern machines offer all that much over the older ones that didn't do all the thinking for you.  Must be old age setting in because I sound like my father.   Shocked

John

Welcome from Ct, John. Been detecting since 72 myself. I have to agree with you on the old vs the new machines. I haven't seen any better depth performance on my XLT over my old 5DB.

Welcome from Deming New Mexico.   What a Hoot!  I started out with a NO NAME BFO back about that time.  Crusader was the Name.

Ordered it out of the back of Rag.

Wish I still had it!

Yep, Damn Computers!    They lie even the ones in the detectors.    LOL! Cool

Welcome to the Forum John. I'm currently hunting with Garrett products. Look forward to seeing pics of your finds. I'm in Spring Texas. If you ever get over towards Houston and want to hunt let me know.

I may take you up on the offer.  I have a brother who lives in Spring.  I don't get over there often because he has kids in the Austin area and usually heads this way but I do go see him.

Thanks,
John

Sounds good John. Of coarse it's pretty hot over here right now. It's nice we can hunt all winter long. But yeah give me a shout and we can show you where we hunt.
