Greeting for a fellow Newbie.  I'm wondering how these folks pick their locations.  I've got plenty of enthusiasm, a good detector and am learning patience...Anyway welcome from a Missouri gent.

Mack

I hear ya. I live in a very historical region of MA, so I think I'll have some luck soon. Just got my detector about a month ago and have only found 2 quarters and a penny when I was at the beach. Going to delve into some of the local places and see what turns up. thanks for the welcome.

Really, I used to live in Ayer (Ft Devens) and spent a lot of time in and around Beantown.  Unfortunately it was before I could afford a good detector.  When I bought it my wife said you're just gonna waste time and money and find nothing.  I made her a promise.  If the first thing I find of any value isn't older than me, I'll sell it and call it quits.  The first thing I found was a 1953 wheat penny...I was born in 1954.  Game on!!

Hello, Skyla.

You did great.   Starting your own topic is the proper way to do it.   If you don't one of us mods have to try to figure out a way to split your intro from the rest of any existing topic thread without disrupting the flow.  Sometimes we can and some times we can't.
When it comes to picking places to detect, I recommend that you and Mack head over to our beginners board.   We've got lots of previous posts on that subject (quicker than trying to sort through the previous introductions, some of which also contain ideas of where you can hunt).   Basically, the more you learn about the history of your area the better.   Basically, you are looking for places where people are likely to have lost money or other stuff.....people lose money when they get in and out of vehicles (even if the vehicle is a buggy), where they hang the laundry, where they exchange money (fairs, markets, sporting events, etc).   Where they change clothes (beaches and swimming holes) or picnic, etc.

I live just a few towns over from Ayer. Wish it was legal to hunt Devens. I know people who have, but I'm a rule follower not a rule breaker. lol

Good ole Devens. I lived there for a year going to the USASATC&S. Isn't it an industrial park now?  Maybe you could get permission from one of the companies. Maybe they all rent from a municipal??
