Found your site this AM and excited about becoming a full member.  Also getting to know more about metal detecting.  I have a Garrett ACE 250 and hopefully learning to use it right.  Planning to upgrade to a different coil.  Thanks for letting me be a part of this site.

Howdy from Arizona......you'll enjoy the 250.  It's a reliable little machine (of which much has been posted here at THunting.com).   You live in one of my favorite areas in the world, though I expect to retire closer to the other end of the Hill Country.

What area of Texas do you live?  I live just outside of Bandera, TX.  Love the area, but need rain and more rain.

I love New Mexico.  My family has been going to Ruidoso, NM since 1950.  Missed going may 5 or 6 years.  Love the mountains and pine trees.  Thanks for welcoming me.

Thanks for the welcome.  What detector do you use?  Do you recommend a different coil that comes with the ACE 250?

    I usually use either a Garrett's GTAx 1250 or a Fisher F-4.
Which search coil to "upgrade" to depends a lot upon what type of hunting you do and where you do it.   I generally do a lot of hunting in "high trash" areas----read old town and mine sites, urban lots where a previous building has been demolished and a new building has not been started, etc----so I use my little coils more often than I use a larger than standard coil.    Someone who hunts mostly in areas with low mineralization that really have been heavily hunted might find the larger coil more useful (unless they're smart enough to hunt along fences and other "tight" spots where the large coils can't go  Wink ).
If an Ace 250 user hunting my area came to me and asked me whether they should get the 9"x12" PROformance coil or the 4.5" sniper coil first, I'd tell them to go with the sniper coil.......but that's based on the logic laid out in the last paragraph.
