I am in the U.S. Army and just moved to Korea.  I am looking for a fun hobby to occupy my weekends and this seems like a fun way to go about it.  I have my own MIMID that I have used in combat and it has served me well.  I plan on using it while here in Korea for fun since I am not being shot at right now.  I am an Explosive Ordnance Disposal Tech with over 20 years of service.  Please dont hold the movie The Hurt Locker against me, is wasnt my fault! LOL  Anyone ever use military mine detectors before for fun?  I am guessing that since it can detect the small firing pin and springs in non-metalic mines, and its not a ferrous locator, it would be a decent starter detector.  Plus its light weight an packs up small for travel.  If you are not familiar with it go to this site:

I am new at the hobby but I figure I can use my experience to start out.  I will gladly except any advice.  When my stuff arrives in two weeks, I plan on going to Incheon.  Thats where MacAurther conducted the amphibious assault during the Korean War.  It gets a lot of visitors so I am sure they have droped something and I might find a War relic! LOL

Welcome from Arizona.  My brother used be AF EOD.    One piece of advise--hunting over there, I might just want to consider everything a potential "boomer", at least until I got real good with my machine.

Welcome from Kansas! Be careful out there and thanks for your service! We have some real technical guys here (not  me) that will probably give you the lowdown on your machine.

Hello Smitty, and Welcome from Utah! We appreciate your service to our country! Yes, be sure you understand the rules out there in Korea, and aren't looking around on some sacred grounds or something like that. You don't want to wind up in jail for doing something illegal.
Be sure to post pictures in the 'today's finds' thread too!

Hello Smitty!  Welcome from the Blue Mountains of northeastern Oregon!    Welcome   Jump in and join the fun.   Interestingly enough, I have a friend I grew up with living in Korea and running an English language school.  I don't remember his location, but his name is also Smith!  Good luck and I wish you many finds.  Keep us posted.

EODSmitty,  Welcome to the board.  Welcome I spent most 1970 and part of 69 at the port of Inchon. The ground is full of war stuff. When they built the new port facility I was there and every time it rained, bomb fragments washed out of the soil. You might make a trip to some of the old closed gold mines around there. Ask around when you get there there are likely lots of Koreans interested in metal detecting and you can find out the ROK rules. Good luck gambol

While Gambol was over in Inchon I was in Pyong Taek and traveled amound the various USASA sites. ELINT Just don't drink too much OB beer and easy on the Kimchi.  You will love the Kimchi once you get used to it. And be careful with the old ordinance. Should be a cool place to detect.
