I am a new member. Been metal detecting 32 years. I am 78 years old. I would like to start with a treasure hunting story.
I am huntmaster for one of the clubs I am In. Every year we have a club hunt. The past three years we have had the hunt at a member's place which was a very old farm. Lots of iron. The first year we buried all silver coins. I have no way of knowing how many were found. But not many, due to the high iron content of the ground. The next year we buried painted pennies. We gave a silver dime for each painted penny found that day. 220 painted pennies were not found. The next year 280 painted pennies were not found. We are talking about one acre of land. I would say there are at least 500 t0 600 coins still there. I have gone several times with several different detectors. Maybe find a coin here or there. But very few. I just bought an Old Compass 77b automatic. I understand it is supposed to be very good at ignoring iron. ( not discriminating iron but ignoring iron) I intend to go this week sometime with the 77b and see if I can't find those coins. If anyone in the Dallas-Fort Worth area that would like to try with me, let me know..my email is....jackintexas32@gmail.com......Jack
