Welcome, and they are gonna love you there. really TN is a nice place, one of the nicest places I ever was stationed. The weather can be wet and warm in the summer, but its not too bad.
I started with a used Bounty Hunter. Its a good machine to start with and works well in most places. I don't care for the visual read out, but it is sensitive, too sensitive sometimes. Pull Tabs makes it hard to hunt trashy areas. I picked up a 4 inch coil and that helped a lot. A pinpointer is a great help for a newbie, but some will tell ya different.
There is a couple different models and they all have a little different operation. Be sure to post your finds, and this is a good place for answers, so ask away. But there is a search bar up top that usually has a few answers for you.
Good luck with your coin shooters. Dont let me calling my BH a nail hunter fool you, this old bh kicks butt when Im in a mode.
