Hi Guys, another newbie here. I'm Frank from California and am looking forward to getting back into metal detecting. Just ordered a Minelab Safari from Kellyco with all the freebie extra's and a Razor Gator digger. Also picked up a X1 probe from from Sun Ray. Still need to grab a good small shovel, (maybe a Lesche), and I pretty much am ready to go. It's been a long time but I'm eager to get started gain. It's been about 15 years since I last enjoyed this hobby. Hope to pick up some great advice and share some cool experiences with you guys.

Welcome frank from Utah! I used to live out in the San Diego area - the wonderful thing about living out there in CA - is that you pretty much get to MD all year round!  Grin

I've checked out that Kellyco website myself - a few people on the forums here recommend it and it looks pretty good. I'll probably be purchasing my next MD from them as well. I've compared their prices with eBay prices on new equipment and not only are they right in there on the money (competitively) but they also throw in free bundles! No, I don't work for them so I'm not doing an ad here hehe.

Hi,

Thanks everyone for the welcome. I just got my Safari today. It was sitting at my door about an hour ago and I just opened it all up. Everything looks good so far. I'm still waiting for my Sun Ray Probe w/ lower shaft to show up (hopefully tomorrow) and then I'll hook everything up. Nice extra thing about the Sun Ray is it makes changing coils easy by wrapping the lower cable on the outside. I guess today I'll start working on a little test garden to get my ears tuned up to all the differences in sound. I know the Safari can sound like a bunch of flutes when it talks to ya so I'm gonna have to really pay attention to what it's telling me and train my ear.
