Hey!
I live in Atlanta, but from Habersham County(top of the GA gold belt). I'm new to prospecting, but extremely eager to learn. I've got my panning equipment, sluice box and a Whites GMZ metal detector, now all I need is a free weekend to put them all to good use! Oh yea, and a hot gold spot wouldn't hurt! Any pointers or clues to good areas to pan are appreciated.

THere are some open places, state parks will let you pan, but no sluicing, dredging, or even digging with a shovel. I'm currently waiting for a reply from a realtor in my hometown who has a large property listed for sale that has an abanoned gold mine shaft, two gold pits and a gold bearing stream.  Hoping he can get in touch with the owner and get me permission or at least a meeting with him to speak about doing a little non-invasive metal detecting/panning/sluicing.  We shall see.

Dang, sounds like your on it.

Look on LR2000 for claims in your area.

With a little work you can find the owner and ask for a kitchen pass.

I do it all the time and have only been turned down  a few times.

They ask that you show and Document what , where and When.

Out of state folks love to get a report on there stuff. Cool

A Documented E-Mail to show anyone that you have PERMISSION to work a claim for a given time on a given date.

I ask for a two day pass in case I mess up on getting there.

Be sure it has any limitations like Hand tools only, Sluice, Dry Washer stated on it.

If someone tries to give you stick on being there you just pull it out and show it to them.   BLM Rangers Included.

Your Covered.

Make sure it has all Info.

Claim owners name.   Primary owner is good.

Phone, Contact, Claim number the whole enchilada.

I have asked at least 50 time of different claim owner and can only remember being turned down 4 or 5 times.

Just have to do as they ask.

Most just ask for reports, Photos, Finds info, Locations of Finds,  Clean up the Crap ya find about, Report Damaged markers, Road Conditions, and stuff like that.

Two times they ask for 1/2 of finds and 10 percent  of finds.   LOL      I sent it registered mail Receipt Required and they ask me to keep up the work and go back.   I didn't because they were to far from home.

But I got in!     Just Asking is a Powerful Tool these days!

Driving down the Road seeing some tasty Melon, Sweet Corn or Squash?

Stop and Ask!

I've been given baskets to carry it away with just by ASKING!

People HATE THEAVES.

If you ASK, what's the Worst they can do?   Say NO!   SAY HELL NO?

Just say Thank you and be on your way.

Hey thanks for the great info! Very much appreciated.  I stopped off this saturday at the realtors office on my way up to Raper Mtn, and met the agent with the listing that I spoke about above, but no luck.  I was told I would have to be accompanied, and only if I was interested in the property for purchase. Had no luck up on Raper Mtn either. Lots and lots of magnetite, but not a visible speck of gold. I may try again with better equipment in the future.  Im looking at the desert fox spiral pan thingie, but haven't done as much research on it as I want to before purchasing.
