Go Up Go Down

Hi Everyone ,,,,,Just stumbled across TH.COM and thought I join in.....when I came to sign up I found out I was already a member.....which took my mind back to a major computer crash a while back so I probably never posted....Anyhow here are a couple of finds I've had of late here in the UK.

The first is an Edward V1 Shilling  1551 in great condition which is unusual ,a lot of his coins were debased so they tend to rot a bit.

The second is a Thundermug {signaling Cannon} which I found a couple of days ago but I'm still stuggling to date it even though it has a shield and possible a crown on it ,but they are still illegible but I'm hopefull they may clean  a little more.....Sorry if this post is in the wrong section I havent studied the forum yet........Regards John

That right there is some good stuff Sir.

That does not look like a signal Cannon to me.

The Mouth is way to small.

You could not put a Wadd over the Charge in a Mug like that.

It would NOT go BOOM.

It may be a Powder Charge MEASURE.

Thanks Homefireand Christian....That did cross my mind ? but why is there a hole for the charge, which cant be seen on these photos but it came to light having spent a couple of days  soaking in olive oil. Also the fact that it weighs 1lb and made from cast iron.   All the measures I've seen are a small and cylinder shape, and the early ones are  asually made from lead....I'll take some more pictures soon to show it........Cheers

Cheers Homefire.....Sorry I couldnt get the link to work,Ill do another search for it....

I've just taken a couple more pictures for you to see....plus several others I've found on the net, but as yet I havent found a trapezoidal one....I must admit its a bit of a strange one.My main reason for assuming it was a signal cannon was the fact it had a hole in the base and it felt way to heavy to be a measure Huh?/Thanks again John.

Welcome back.    Since is the first post you've made (at least in a very long time) you get special dispensation if you didn't put things in the "proper" place.   The important thing is you're here and your posting.   Everything else comes with time and familiarity.

BA in Arizona.
