Go Up Go Down

first up let me say a big hello to you all, Waveing
as new to this treasure hunting ,would like a little info, as I could not afford some of the better detectors ,decided to go for a used md2000,
1. because it didn't cost a fortune,
2. because new they cost a fortune,
3. it's supposedly very very good,(or so I read)
4. comes with extras & waterproof as well,
5. didnt want to go for something cheap then start wanting to upgrade (if you can understand that)
so thought why not, got 2 of them pin point thingy's as well as headphones with it as well.
I was wondering if it's possible to built some sort of discriminator circuit board for it? save digging up everything & anything, guess that question is for the more technically minded
and if so any ideas as to how, plans, what would be needed etc, or anything available as to how to,
a nudge or point in right direction?would be welcome
anyway any help offerd will be welcomed
thanks in advance
stevie b

Hi Stevie B and welcome to the forum

Most things are possible mate but not always worth your while. First you would have to have an excellent understanding of electronics which you do not have or you would not have asked the question in the first place, if the machine is build with smc it's just about impossible to modify. If I were you I'd dig it all up until I have found enough gold and silver to buy a new detector with all the bells and whistles that you want.

Welcome from Melbourne Australia.
Is this the MD2000 detector we are talking about?
""The MD 2000 Multi Role Metal Detector, the MD2000 is versatile detector with interchangeable detector probes and search halo.
_ The MD2000 is suited for use by military, police and civilian users.
_ the equipment is weatherproof and the probes and halo are waterproof, the MD2000 operates using pulse induction, the control unit allows the operator to calibrate the sensitivity of
detector to suit local conditions. The MD2000 is supplied in a Storm Transit case with custom foam cut-outs."""
If it is building a discriminator for a PI unit it’s not possible. Garrett ML and others they do have some type of discrimination on there PI units but very basic.
If you are planning to detect in parks and school yards it better if you buy a VLF detector as your first detector.
As BA said go through our beginners’ board there are many answers there

1st thanks for the welcome from various members worldwide Clapp
2nd looks like I bought a lemon then? I thought (well) if good enough for nato, it must have been built to a high standard ,and would have been better that some of the cheaper ones on the market within my budget(£250), so guess I will take advice from those in the know and just resell it .then have a look at the ones members have advised me on
thanks to all
steve
