Hi Avision,
I've had associates from Michigan. I'm sure I would enjoy digging there. Michigan is the only area where Native Americans worked metal(copper). If you ever run accross any, you'll have a real treasure

Homefire,
I can't imagine what kind of can opener you have.
I was doing a cultural survey in Florida many years back, and all of a sudden patrol cars with sirens screaming and police with their guns drawn surrounded me. My co-worker and I were just coming out of a saw palmetto forest. Seems someone in the neighboring housing development saw a couple of strange people with shovels behind their house and thought we might be burying a corpse or something....
This is as close as Indiana Jones real archaeology gets....

Battlesjr,
Thanks for the pics. I've had  few encounters with snakes here in Alabama. I've seen more in the florida swamps and in Central America. They don't bother me as much as spiders, mosquitos, and scorpions. I hate them.

Hi Duchess!   Welcome from the Blue Mountains of northeastern Oregon.  Good to have an archaeologist interested in metal detecting, (do I dare say the forbidden word "treasure hunting?") on the forum.  Look forward to your observations and points of view.

Hey Homfire, I'm an artifact just like you!  Treat me gently!   Grin LOL!

Thanks to everyone for making me feel welcome. Hopefully I'll nake a contribution to the site. The  metal detector I currently own is an artifact, but works fine for historic digs. My inerest is searching for meteorites, but I wouldn't leave coins and jewelry behind if I find any.  If anyone has been successful findiing them, I'd enjoy chatting.

I havent gone meteorite hunting yet, but I did look online to see where they may be in my area. I found one "field" just south of me from one that fell. Here is part of the article................

In March 1882, a bright light bore down from the skies at Oswego, accompanied by a roaring sound and a color of molten red. When it exploded overhead, windows were shattered in Warsaw 11 miles away.

Theyve found a large piece of it, and several smaller ones. I have so many good sites for coins, relics, jewelry,  that I havent made time to check it out yet.
