Hi Lucid.......Welcome to THunting.com.

So what part of 'Bama are you in?   I spent a few years in Birmingham (including a couple where Vulcan would have taken out my apartment if he tumbled down towards B'ham instead of Homewood) and then a little over a year in Montgomery.

BA in Arizona

Welcome from Minnesota.  I used to live in Cullman for 1979 until 1987.  I loved Alabama except for the heat.  Lips Sealed

I'm in Cullman/Blount Co.

I've always been a history buff and have thought about getting into metal detecting since I'm into just about everything else. I love hunting and digging arrowheads and artifacts, fossil hunting, simple gold prospecting, bottle digging, etc. etc.

I'm an outdoorsman by nature and spend on average 3 or 4 days a week on the creeks, rivers, and woods. One of my favorite things is researching old historic site and mills and finding them. That's another reason I have thought about taking up metal detecting.

"One of my favorite things is researching old historic site and mills and finding them. That's another reason I have thought about taking up metal detecting."

I think that's a big draw for a lot of us.   Finding old stuff and lost coins is always a thrill, but when you've found it at a site that you've dug out of history yourself based on your own research because you've followed the clues that you've uncovered, it is especially sweet.   (not to mention the fact that when you do uncover something at the site, you've got a good start at identifying the object and why it is there).

Speaking of old sites in Alabaman, when I lived in Birmingham, I literally lived less than 50 yards (and across the street) from this place
