Hi everyone and thanks,

Homefire the rules are exactly the same as the rest of the UK, anything over 300 years old and not a coin and containing at least 10% precious metal must be reported to the local coroner, if this is declared treasure trove it is split between the landowner and the finder, other than that its usually an agreement between the landowner and yourself on what you want to do with your finds. Unfortunately we don't have any abandoned gold mining operations that could be worth prospecting!!  Over the border in the Republic of Ireland I believe the rules are pretty strict on metal detecting, and most of the guys are limited to the beach as anyone found searching land is assumed guilty of seaching for archaeological artefacts, until proven innocent!!
