Go Up Go Down

just wanted to say hi to everyone.  i have been playing around with detecting for years now my 9 year old daughter has the bug.  i have a garrett ace 250 that she loves and now im thinking about getting another detector so we both can use one.  i think she's getting the 250 and i'm thinking about getting an ace 350.  i have been reading and researching for weeks and for me i think the ace 350 would be a step up and the best detector for me.  i know i want a name brand with the digital display.

everyone have a good day

rick

Hi Rick,
Funny thing, my daughter(s) are interested ages 9 and 11, as well. I am trying to build a MD and should have it ready some time this week. The bench tests seem to show a lot of promise. I have never run a commercial unit so I can't say if what I have is better or worse, but based on many of the comments it should be right up there. Obviously, there are no bells and whistles for discrimination, but it should add more to the adventure.

Have fun and enjoy the outdoors with your daughter.
Cheers,
tommyb

G Day Rick and welcome to Thunting from London via Australia,

Now regarding you getting another machine, Try and get one that opperates on another frequency because
they will cross talk  and you will not be able to detect close to your Daughter so that way you can be close
by when she needs Dads help

good luck,

Welcome from New Mexico!  Not to dog Garrett, but there are other machines out there.

Tesoro may fit the bill if you can live with out the Funky tones and TDI!

Life time Warranty is cool too!

Hi Rick,

    Welcome from Arizona.
AU is correct about making sure you don't operate on the same future as your daughter's Ace 250....I had a heck of a lot of cross-chatter whenever my wife and I used Garrett GTAx's.   However, looking at the specs for the Ace 350, I don't think you'll have a problem there.   Personally, I'd follow Homefire's suggestion about Tesoros, BUT since you've already indicated you like digital displays, you can cross the Tesoros off of the list.
Since you like the Ace 250 and understand how it works, I don't see any pressing reason for you to change to a different brand.    On the other hand, IF the budget allows to spend more than what the Ace350 goes for, you can make enough of a jump in capability that it might be worth looking at a couple of other brands.

From NC. "HEY". Welcome to T_Huntin. I have a 250 also and have been using the sniper.
Great little coil the sniper. I love it and the 250. Enjoy the wonders you will find here.

The Tesoro DeLeon is an excellent machine and definitely worth considering.   That moves us up a bit in the budget category, so you might want to also add the Garrett AT-Pro to the list.   Even if you don't dive, snorkel, etc, having a detector you don't have to worry about if you lose your footing crossing a stream or get hit by a rogue wave while beach hunting makes sense.

If we take the Ace350 as the low range of what you want to spend and the Tesoro DeLeon as the upper limit (realizing that you could also buy a good used machine in the same price range), and knowing that a digital display is important to you, good candidates for you would be:

from Garrett:
Garrett Ace350
Garrett AT-Pro

from First Texas Products:
Fisher F-5
Teknetics Gamma  6000
Teknetics Omega  8000

from Tesoro:
DeLeon

When you look at that list, it pretty much comes down to which do you prefer  a Ford, a Chevy, or an American made Toyota?    (and, no I'm not calling the Tesoro a Toyota)

Hi Rick
Welcome to forum, Garret 350 is a good choice I don’t have one  as I hunt with Whites Spectra ,but I can only say I sometimes hunt in park and beaches with a friend of mine and he has a custom set up or mode on the machine, not only that he can pinpoint better with his coil 8.5”x11” DD ,but where Spectra has a sometimes problem on beach ( more complicated set up)his detector is more capable on beaches( Black sand etc )and go deep in sand, but also in park and nugget hunting is not far behind the Spectra. As a comparison he make his detector recover purchase price in matter of week ,unfortunately I did have to work much harder to do the same ,but we not buying the detector for recover the money, this is a life of happy hunting and fun and in the end is only the tools . People here on forum are the most friendly  bunch ,and some more experienced members post a really valuable experiences and knowledge of this perfect hobby .Happy hunting for you and your daughter.
Fenix
