Hi Dan,
I'am from Auckland NZ and have been metal detecting for about 1 year and own a garrett 1250  with two coils. I mainly do the local beaches. As a boatbuilder I mess about with boats, fishing and diving. This is the first message that I've sent. Bruce

Hi Dan,
I hired a underwater metal detector many years ago from a Auckland dive shop to find a bag of jewellery dropped off a boat. Didn't find it,but it did work well. I've scuba dived under a few wharfs in Auckland without a metal detector and the amount of junk under them is unreal. Do you know any thing about using a large search coil ? Do you have to adjust the metal detector ? I' am finding the larger coil harder to pin point my target. I 'am planning a Christmas holiday down at Coromandel and we'll try fossicking for gold. Been doing a bit of research on places to go. Bruce
Hi Sue,
Do you have any experence with a large coil ? Mine is 10 inch by 14 inches. I 've got a Garrett 1250 metal detector which I've had for about 1 year and probably done about 40 hrs with it. With larger coil I find it harder to pin point the target, but I think I 'am covering a large area better. It's winter with spring just around the corner in New Zealand with between about 14 - 18 c with a low of about 10 c at night. So the beaches are nice and empty. I mainly find coins and cheap jewlery, but I 'am not really into it for the money. I love the thrill of the chase. The treasure hunt. Do you think I should stick to a small coil for beach work ? Bruce.
