Hi from the east coast

ok....I'm not sure how many of our members are into games like Mutmonix.  Most of us seem to be pretty well consumed with either hunting for real world treasures or seeking Yamashita/KGC/Captain Kidd/Templar treasures, but welcome.  You'll probably find some interesting discussions here.

Thank you all for the warm welcome. I do know you are looking for real world treasures, following history and real-life stories. Mutmonix is actually doing the same, with a twist. You get a real story and a real life treasure, whose location is a mystery waiting to be solved. Let me explain: When you go to mutmonix.com  (free!!), you get the background story in a form of 4 pages with images and some text. As in the other treasure hunts, you may want to check books and other sources for more information. You may also get hints on the site.
The hunt itself is done in the real world, chasing real treasures, which may be found in remote locations around the world. You may go there by yourself, or form partnership with other guys/groups in the remote areas, using the partnership agreement embedded in the website.
The only "twist" is that the treasure you find is not an ancient metal coin (although it may look like one) but some item that will bring you the real $ treasure. The race starts with $1000 in the pot, and it grows weekly.
So you see, it's not much different from the "real" treasure hunt. You may put Mutmonix under the "games" category, but isn't treasure hunting in any form a kind of a game after all?

It's real and free for everyone. You do not risk anything and you have no obligation. If you find the treasure, you get the money (growing weekly). As the Mutmonix slogan says: Get Money for Your Brain.
If you are asking how the company gets some money from this, there are two simple answers:
1) If you like, you may buy hints, which are sold on the site for only $0.99 each. Soon we will have also Gadgets for sale, that will allow the user to do some magic stuff on the images like "Seeing through wall", "Changing gravity" etc. But, if you are smart enough (which you are...) you don't need any of those and for you the fun is FREE.
2) The company is working with some advertising agencies to get sponsors in return for hidden treasures on the riddles and on the real path to the big one. This can bring you, the user, even more prizes.
Again - no scam here. The fun and the treasure can be yours for free. Brain power.
