I read a post thread from 2007 about Welsh gold. I know Mark, the former mine manager mentioned in the post, and all of the best locations. I am probably the most successful gold panner since the last mines closed. I'd be happy to discuss the prospecting and ecology issues with members here. I have also set up a charitable trust to use the profits from the manufacture of pure Welsh gold jewellry. I'm not trying to sell anything here, my clients are via official assay offices.

It's all about that moment when metal that hasn't seen the light of day for generations frees itself from the soil and presents itself to me.

Thank you all for the kind welcomes. I believe there is still a fantastic amount of undiscovered gold in Wales, and Ireland. For the past thirty years the majority of leisure prospecting was to the east of the Harlech Dome, with plenty of modern facilities, including toilet blocks etc. The more remote areas haven't really been prospected, as they require full kit, grit and determination. A bit lonely in these areas, as my mates don't have the necessary grit.

Welcome from Arizona.    With absolutely no disrespect intended, I have a bit of a hard time wrapping my head around the notion of "remote areas" of Wales  (at least until I start looking at good topographic maps).

Hi BitburgAggie
Only able to reply now after an extended trip. Yes, Wales is very small in comparison with your great country, but 'remote' is a relative term. In a small country a climb of a few miles up a steep mountain path is quite challenging for most of the general population here. If Wales was the size of Arizona the Welsh would be accustomed to big hikes. However, I suspect that in Arizona you don't walk scores or hundreds of miles into the prospecting areas, then spend all day hiking or climbing. Here, the best areas are on the doorstep in comparison, so we don't have to drive great distances.

I hear you.   Here we drive out into the boondocks, and then those who have them unload their All Terrain Vehicles and take them as far as they can before resorting to shoe leather.   Of course, those of us who don't have ATV's and can't afford to keep a horse and/or mule can still have some mighty long hikes back into the working areas.   Worse yet, there isn't much water in most parts of Arizona, so you have to haul a dry-washer and twice as much drinking water as you think you're going to need.

Still, I think most of your mountain paths are a bit steeper than most of ours.

Hi Matey
We get older, and yet somehow, fitter if we are determined to get rich in spiritual and goldilocks experience or die tryin. I'd love to challenge myself in your beautiful but arrid country, but not this year, I'm mounting a big campaign to get the authorities here to stop harassing Welsh panners because of sensitive fish eggs. Where are they I ask, they don't know, maybe flying fish eggs up in the trees? Ever you want to try Welsh mountain paths, let me know, my charitable trust will welcome good guys from USA.
