Hi. I reently came into this hobby by way of an amateur career in archaeology. Still haven't decided on which detector to buy yet so if anyone can let me know of any pitfalls I need to avoid I would be grateful.

Well, as far as your detector is concerned, what's your budget? Being in teh UK I could recommend a XP Goldmaxx. They can be found 2nd hand on eBay UK quite often and are excellent machines. Better buy a better machine right in the beging as it will give you more finds and can also be resold with little or no loss if you should not like it.
