Hi everyone I?m Mike and I came across this site by accident, but already after browsing through the various options it looks very interesting, so I decided to join.
I have been detecting since early 2006, this was when I finally finished winding the coils for my home built detector, I made the PC Boards many years before, but never actually got around to building it.
It worked fine, but needed constant re-tuning, so after its first outing I decided that technology had moved on, since then I have bought a Garrett Ace 250.
I wish I had started detecting earlier, its such a great hobby.

Hello Mike welcome to THunting.com and thanks for joing us! There are really great things to be found in the UK! I bet you should be able to come up with some neat things. What type of detector did you build?

Best wishes,

Hello Mike, The Ace250 might qualify for the detector of the decade. Smiley

Hello Christian, you asked me what type of detector I had built; it was an Induction Balance type, with a pin-point coil which was very popular around the 1980's. It was good for its day as it could discriminate against iron and other metals depending on the setting. The detector had a center position meter, iron (ferrous) gave a negative reading and all other metals gave a positive reading, the tone could be set to come in where required e.g. at zero (centre). The unfortunate thing for me was I had to keep re-adjusting it to the centre and once I got my new detector I didn?t try to rectify the fault.  I can give you more info if you're interested.
