Hi Barry.Welcome from Connecticut. You can find some good direction on home brew detectors here. There are good sources here for already laid out, etched, plated and drilled PC boards to make the building process easier.

HI  XAVIER ,,Thankyou for the welcome..

I like DIY Projects & I can follow schematics reasonably well & have good soldering station etc etc..

As to which MD circuit I am open for advice ,but I see there are PC boards available for surf PI & VLF units..

I can see problems Bread boarding a complete circuit !!!!

I do have a El-cheapo chinese vfl MD [Not actually used it yet very much ,It will detect my wedding ring at 4-5'' in AIR ,,I thought I may be able to make a better coil for that for a starting exersize?Huh?Huh?Huh?Huh?Huh??..IT has a strange looking coil & I measured tx @13.5 kHz..
