Hi Chip......welcome from Arizona.   You'll find a lot of tips in the "Beginners" board and also by using the search function at the top of the page.   Hopefully you'll find some answers that will make looking at detectors less confusing.

Hey Chip Welcome
Welcome fellow Buckeye Clapp I'm also new here and am looking forward to exploring the entire site.
I just received my first detector Christmas from my wife- a GC-1036 Gold Digger. All right guys quit laughing, an old codger has to start somewhere Wink Yeah, I know it's a cheapie, but it's better than nuthin' Cheesy
Anyway Chip, just take your time and reseach all of the different brands and also price levels. There's a ton of very good vids on You Tube- just type metal detecting in the search box. I've downloaded a bunch of them and have learned a great deal already. Due to our beautiful Ohio weather [ gonna change for the good this weekend  Grin] I' ve only been out once. But, even though I got pretty cold ,it was fun and can barely restrain myself from going out in the cold and freezin' my old butt off again.
So, here's to Morgan's Raiders  Rider and the goodies that they may have left behind. I'm from SE Ohio

Welcome from CT. You can do a lot of reading here and get some ideas about what detector to go for. And you can ask a lot of questions. There is a lot of resource information for checking out treasure leads etc.
