Hi to everyone. I am a 77 year old hunter who has the opportunity to hunt in California, Arizona,Colorado,Nebraska, and Missouri.  I have not found any great discovery yet but have had a ball finding Civil War and Indian artifacts.  Legs are wore out, so can't do much more  hunting.

Howdy John,  Say I like that cute little smiling kitten the pic makes me laugh.  In Central Arizona you can drive practically anywhere you want to go and don't have to hike in very far or not at all.  It's nice to have a 4 wheel drive but not needed in most cases I have found.  The roads off of hwy 60 are mostly dirt and en less wiped out by a flash flood are driveable for a regular pick up truck.  Get some books on identifying old Spanish Treasure signs and have fun following the old treasure trails by following the old Spanish treasure signs.  They are still out there waiting for your discovery.  Charles Kenworthy has a few books and Mike Hawkeye Pickett is another old pro that writes books about what use to be trade secrets.  Learn the secrets from the experts and have fun in the Sun.  This area of Arizona is BLM land and is free to camp on or at least cheap in most areas.  From Feb to the middle of April you can have a great vacation living in your  RV and enjoying the wild wonderful and mostly unpopulated Central Arizona area.  Mostly old timers live in La Paz county too, so you won't stick out like a sore thumb ha.  Plenty of metal detector and gold hunters down there too.  In the town of Quartzsite there are two Treasure Hunting stores that sell everything you will need.  I recently bought a pick that is the cats meow.  Its got a powerful  magnet right on top of the pick handle hole that will allow you to pick up all the old little targets that drive you crazy, like nails, barbed wire and other ferrous metals.  It costs $35 but its worth every penny.  Everyone down there is friendly and has lots of time to talk to you about treasure topics.  There is even a metal detecting club in town that I hear is lots of fun.  So I hope if you have any questions just let me know.

Detecting  Believe it or not but we have a large gold stash here in Missouri. Picked up the lead in the St Louis Library. Brothers mined in Montana and rafting back to St louis got trapped by an Ice Jamb and had to bury and portage the gold and got killed  by Indians. It could be any place along the Missouri River in Missouri in the hills as the Ice jamb would cause flooding.  Got any Ideas??  According to the News Story there was a good load of Gold. Clapp

Howdy,  You're going to have to narrow it done some as that's a HUGE AREA and you could spend a whole lifetime looking and never get close.  If the Indians killed 'em all, maybe the Indians took the Gold.  What would they do with that much Gold?  Well it depends on the time and who the Indians were.  Some Indians like the Apache would kill all the whites or Mexicans and just put the Gold back in Mother Earth because they thought Gold was the tears of the Sun and should go back into the Earth.  Later the Apache learned that Gold could buy booze, blankets, rifles, horses and all the rest of the good stuff.  Eastern Indians learned quicker than western ones on the value of Gold.  But there are other variables involved like religion, taboos and what the currant chief thought or medicine man.  But Gold is where you find it.  So do some more research.  Who where these Indians?  Where did the story come from?  Follow the trail and see where it leads. Think in terms of Who, What, When, Where, How.

Apache, here in New Mexico just stuck it in the rocks some place to keep it away from the Whities!

No Value!

They took what they needed, clothing, food and meat (Horses, Cows, Sheep) from the same.

A Women or Two was good too!
