Enthusiastic is great.

That helps you to enjoy.

What will tell the tale is

persistance.

Persistance + enthusiasm = success

Happy Huntin, and welcome,

Tabdog

As I said  I'm greener n grass. I rockhound some, but have always had a hankerin' for a detector. There is a 20+ acre park across the street from me that hosts community events year round. I've never seen anyone work it with a detector in the ten years I've lived across the street from it. Next to that are two high schools with huge sports fields.

In addition thare are many smaller parks within a five mile radius, not to mention a ton of sports fields and school yards.

There are also a ton of abandoned farmsites, (literally hundreds of them)  and many abandoned school sites within an hours drive. I haven't bought my machine yet, still researching. I'm on a fixed disability pension so need to make teh right choice. Reliable, accurate and easy to operate will be teh key. Bells and whistles would be nice but those cost money. I've looked at the machines some of y'all have and they make me drool but I've got  to be realistic.

I guess I'm looking for relics, coin and jewellry.

Suggestions?

I have a suggestion for that big park across the street --- Keep your eye on the newspaper for dates when there are events/concerts at the park.  Then go out there the next morning with your detector to search for items lost the night before. Wink

That would be every weekend for the summer, plus every Wednesday (farmer's market and concert series). I'm looking forward to Spring. BY then I'll have my macine and lots of ground to learn how to use it properly over.

Like you, I've got some abandoned school sites in the mountains around me, but most of them seem to be historic sites, which can lead to big trouble (ie; fines) if one is caught digging there.  A little research on those old schools can save you some trouble with the law! Embarrassed

If you can do without bells and whistles,
the Tesoro Vaquero is a good machine.

It has a single tone. That scares lots of
folks. No display.

I think they are $420. About $300 used.

If you want a display, look at the Ace
250. It is a good low cost machine. It
is $240 or so new.

But I am a old guy. I like the Tesoro
Compadre.

I am on a small fixed income. I have
five Tesoroes.

My two Compadres have paid for all
my detectrors more than once.

I concentrate on gold jewelry, but I
love relics and artifacts.

Happy Huntin,

Tabdog
