At eight I'd say he is old enough for the compadre, but the BH junior would probably be ok for him also.   A lot of our members started out with worse detectors.....just ask homefire.

LOL!  I begged my mom to get me my first back about 1972.

A No Name BFO!    I found all kinds of goodies with that thing.

I found a 1953 Silver Quarter just off the Front Porch in the first 10 Minutes.   Oh , Man I was Doomed.    Never again the same kid.

BA gave me a Camo LS with a bad On / Off switch.

I by Passed it and got more then a few hundred Hours out of it then the Pot it's self failed.

I can correct it in time.

Bounty Hunters are pretty much the low of the LOW detectors.

But ya know What?

They Kick Ass.

For the Price there one hell of a machine.

The one you gave me is up in the Parts Bin right now waiting for a 100k Pot.

The Same Problem you had.

I By Passed the On/Off Switch on it and got a pile of miles out of it but the actual Pot went Dead Bug and I need one.

I have one that would work but don't want to make it more Ugly then I already did so I can wait.

That stupid thing will find a 22K ear ring backing in 9" of sand in a TOT lot.

Nothing Wrong with that!

Ok they are cheap!

But They Do Kick Ass.

Sounds like a Good Deal on the two.   If I had the Funds, that would be a Good Deal!

Interesting, thanks everyone. I was looking for basically a starter kit, and this way the both of us can have a machine, which will keep him more interested. I think I may go for that package, and see how he likes it, maybe next year, I'll buy myself a different machine, and he can have the one I use.

Hello, and Welcome from Utah!

And, if you haven't thought about it already, don't forget to pick up the appropriate digging tools, as well as the Garrett Pro-pointer. They're great, and save a lot of time in the hole trying to figure out where your find is. I purchased my Ace 350 and Pro-pointer from KellyCo online. They're highly recommended here in this forum by other members as well.
Not sure what the shipping charges to Canada would be, but it's worth checking out.
Good luck!

Hi  Ian and Dev

First let me welcome you to the forum. I think that it won't matter what lower end detector you get at first because you'll be upgrading very soon, but what would mater is if you get a top of the range detector that you wont be able to use, and because of the complexity of the machine you'll just end up getting frustrated and probably will give up metal detecting before you've even begun.

All the best
Xavier

That was another issue I wanted to avoid. Thanks for that, I wanted it simple to start with, basically point and go.

Go Up Go Down

Welcome from Mississipi. I got my detector about two weeks ago. We've made several family outings that were enjoyable. the choice on which machine to buy can be mind boggling. For every good thing you read on reviews on the machine you're thinking about, someone else will counter with a negative.

I chose the MInelab xterra 305. I'm sure someone out there has plently they don't like about it, but I have been very pleased. When I decided which detector I wanted, I searched the internet sites..... alll the same price. There were no used 305 machines on ebay since the hobby is popular right now. About a month into the search, someone was upgrading to a upper-level detector and were selling their 2 month old 305 on ebay for 1/3 off new retail. It still has 34 monthe of the warranty left.

Good luck on your decision.
