Go Up Go Down

Howdy from Texas by way of Cape Town. I have just joined, and will be reading over all of the treasure tales. I work on an offshore drilling ship and have some time to read over stuff like this. There is an old family story of when my Dad was young, his family stopped on the side of the road one night as it was getting late, and they were coming home from somewhere. Any way they decided to camp for the night, and when all of the brothers pulled out their "whet stones" one of my aunts was a little upset that she didn't have one, so she went out into the bush on the side of the road, and found herself one. When she returned she started "sharpening" her little knife when one of the brothers saw her stone and immediately jumped up and asked her where she had gotten it. Since she had all the attention by that time and didn't want any one else to have as pretty a stone as her's she didn't tell. It looked to be a solid silver bar. After much arguing among the kids, she finally threw the bar back into the brush, and the brothers rushed out to try to find it- which they didn't. To this day, they still try to stop on that same stretch of road in central Texas to look for the lost silver bar, and what ever else they may find.

Hi jrferrell0120 and welcome aboard. Enjoyed your introductory post - that has to be frustrating not to find the bar. Nice to have you as a new member. Sue in Kansas

Yes, while it is "Frustrating" it also makes a good "family tale" and after so many years, makes for a good "Leg stretching rest stop" while on long drives with "Gran-Pa". The grand kids will ask "Gran-Pa are we close to the spot? To which Gran-Pa will usually answer (no matter where we actually are) "Sure, this looks like it might be close", and we all pull over off the road, and "look around" for about 30 minutes. I don't know if I have ever actually been to "the spot", and I don't know if Gran-Pa actually remembers still where "the Spot" might be.*** It is not the destination, but rather the journey...

True... Gran-Pa stories are the bestest stories, even if they are "borrowed" from your own Gran-PA

Wow......welcome.   You've got my attention, especially since central Texas is a place I'd dearly love to be.  Hope to hear from you often.
