Welcome from N.E. Oregon!   Welcome    What part of the country are you from?  Do you have a metal detector?  If so, what kind?   What kind of detecting or treasure hunting do you like to do?   Looking forward to your posts.                      Detecting

Hello Ancestor.   Welcome from Arizona.
Homefire gave you some really good advise.   Read the old posts on the Beginner's board.   There are lot's of tips and tricks there, including lots of discussions on choosing metal detectors and pinpointers.   And speaking of choosing metal detectors, choosing the "best for the price" is a whole lot like choosing the best vehicle for the price.  A whole lot depends on what you will (mostly) be hunting for and where you will (mostly) be hunting.   And to be honest when you're talking about major manufacturer's a lot of it gets down to either "brand loyalty" or individual ergonomics.   (You will find a lot guidance about what sort of questions to ask and what to look for when deciding what the best detector for the price for YOU might be even if we have a tendency NOT to give a direct answer).
If you have not already done so, I suggest you find a nearby metal detecting club and attend at least one or two meetings.   That is a great way to meet fellow hobbyists.   It will probably take some work on your part, but with the right attitude you should be able to find a hunting partner or two.   And if they have club hunts, go on them....if you listen more than you talk you'll pick up a lot of tips.

BA
