Hi lowrider 1959 Smiley Maybe you can get over to find gold in the Boise basin. Never been there but.... someday.

Very true! Usually in the streams up your way you can see areas in front of some of the rocks that will have a line of black sand. You can find them near the waterline where high water has receded which it should have some by now. Those spots tend to catch the heavy material and usually have a little color. The closer you can get to the main channel will have the heaviest deposits.

What kind of pan do you have? Is it metal or a plastic gravity trap (with riffles)?

The correct method is the method that works best for you (i.e. allows you to recover the most gold in the least amount of time with the least waste).  Everybody's body mechanics are different, so you may or may not be able to master someone elses techniques.  You need to master the principles of separation and stratification---even if it means using a non-orthodox method.   (Start with the orthodox methods and try to master them.  If you do that, you'll discover what does and doesn't work for you.)

You might want to go over to YouTube and search "goldpanning".   There are several how-to videos there.  And if you are not a member of GPAA, you might want to seriously consider joining.  Membership isn't all that expensive and you have access to a lot information as well as access to their claims.

BA speaks truth! You can test your methods by finding an old wheel weight and carving off a couple small flakes of lead. Toss them in a pan of dirt and work it out. If you still have the lead in your pan when the dirt is gone you will keep gold as well.
