Hi and welcome from Pa! Try local parks, or beaches. Just be sure to fill any holes you dig. Check out the beginner section, there's a bunch of tips there

Try to find a local detecting club. Most have members eager to go hunting and share their experience. Good Luck! Teach

Monacoll....if you've had a detector for year and don't know where to start, both Junker and Upsmanpa have given you great advice.   A good club can be a source not only for a mentor but for the subtle little push sometimes needed to get out and practice on the beaches and in the parks.......

Plus make sure you read THunting posts regularly......our members are full of great tips .

I think they have pills for wind nowadays but can't give any advice on the rain.

It's all about that moment when metal that hasn't seen the light of day for generations frees itself from the soil and presents itself to me.
