I will definitely put the Hot Springs on my list of things to do, next time I get out that way.

just drove through New Mexico a few weeks ago. One thing I didn't know about New Mexico is that once upon a time there were volcanos there. I saw the lava deposits along the roadway.

Yeah, when I was growing up and would spend time with my grandparents in Albuquerque, the old timers used to tell about some pranksters from the University of New Mexico who went to one of the volcanoes just across the river from Albuquerque and lit a bunch of tires on fire in one of the old caldera so folks would think one of them was coming active again.  I've trekeed across several of those in the ABQ area plus a bit of the Malpais.  Lots of the rocks in the area are covered by pictographs chipped into the rock by Native Americans and (occassionally) by bored shepherds after the Europeans entered the area.    Do NOT mistake those for "treasure" signs.
