Hi, my name is randy and i just found your community. I was looking for schematics of metal locators, thinking of building one, and that led me here.I really need to learn more about the different types and the circuitry involved,or maybe i can find a broken one somewhere to fix and practice modifications on in an effort to improve its performance. Can you tell iv'e time on my hands? I was laid off from my job jan.2nd and ive been working on electronics and reading alot since then, waiting to either be called back, or find another jobs soon.I really enjoy electronics and was thinking that metal locators might be a new direction for me there.I am also an amateur radio operator/shortwave listener with all the equipment i could need to repair any type of metal locator once i learn their theory of operation.

Hello Randy! Welcome to our forum! You have come to the right place to learn more about building your own metal detector. There are great folks aboard who can offer you much advice. However be warned: A sophisticated detector is much work when building it all by yourself - but it can of course als be much fun.

So if you've got any questions please don't hestiate to ask and thanks for having joined us!

Regards,

Christian

Thank you, i am enjoying it already. I have been looking for information on metal locators for a couple weeks and maybe i just found the "gold coin" in my backyard.nice to be a part of the group and i look forward to reading all the post, ive not had time yet to learn to navigate the site but it shouldn't take me long. I will be back later this evening, but now i have to go to my old house and move some appliances to my oldest sons house.

Hi Christian.
Im hoping my requirements are not to sophisticated, but I guess as Randy says maybe repair of faulty unit is always another option to making your own.

If anyone needs data on specific integrated circuits or transistors, i have a library of manuals in my shop with most of the older ones (not the new ones from the last year or so) but those would probably be on google.
