Hi,

I'm new to MDing and live in the gold country of Northern California near Placerville. I own a Garrett Ace 250, a Minelab Muskie and my new detector is a Minelab Explorer RS Pro. Looking forward to bumping into a few of you on these boards and sharing ideas and techniques.

Jon

Welcome Jon from Utah! I have relatives living up there in Placerville! Nice area - pretty dry most of the time. I have a cousin that lives in the Cameron Park area (near the airport), and my aunt & uncle live up there South of the town of Placerville on about 5 acres. It's very hilly out there! Have you found any nuggets in the streams yet? Any places of old tillings out there from the mining?

Share some stories with us!

I actually live right on top of an entire old gold rush town that was burned in fires that swept through here in the 1930s. I'm just over the ridge from the airport in Cameron Park and we've found a lot of square nails in MDing out here. Almost always find them with ashes,  so it is clear that this was the big fire that knocked down most of the buildings here on-site. I've found some strange melted metal slag and have identified some deep targets that I have yet to dig. As for stories; Just bought a nice little Musketeer Colt a week ago and found a silver religious medal downtown with it in the first hour of using it. Lots and lots of clad found and found a strange medallion here recently near one of the parks in the area. I like coinshooting and relic hunting and plan to go further with it. Going for gold later in the year, but I've got a LOT to learn on that topic ;>) There are plenty of places to hunt out here and I would like to do some deep detecting for that with my Explorer RS Pro when it comes in.

Sounds great there Jon, you're definitely on your way to becoming a seasoned MDer! Please post your new finds in the 'Today's Finds' thread on this forum with pictures... we'd love to see some of the stuff that comes up from there!
