Go Up Go Down

Just joined and I am very excited about my new hobby.  My name is Daniel Byers and I live in Naples Florida.  For years I have watched other find all kind of goodies on the beach and shallow waters of the Gulf.  Now its my turn.  I have researched until I am blue in the face.  I decided to rent a detector from my local dive shop.  A J.W. Fisher 6x.  Heavy thing!  He only has the bone phone so I have to hold it to my ear while walking the beach.  I have found a few neat items and even digging up metal stuff is cool, for now.  I need to find a good waterproof detector.  I may dive with it in the future.  I was sold on the JW Fisher until a treasure hunter guy I connected with told me about the Aquapulse 1b.  Not much info out there on them.  He swears by them and has used the JW Fisher in the past.  I read about P.I. detectors hitting on all metal and not picking up small gold rings.  I have read good things about the Excalibur but I really like the ease of the controls on the JW Fisher and the Aquapulse.  Seasoned detectors I turn to you for advice and help.  Thanks, Dan

Welcome aboard, Dan........I'll let the folks who live close to the water answer your questions on those detectors (but you'll find some of the answers either by reading the posts in the beach and shallow water hunting boards or by using the search function at the top of the page).

Hope you find many rings.

Hey Dam Welcome from Texas. I suggest you narrow your search to PI detectors and find one that fits your wallet.

Hi Dan,
The aquapulse is quite an old design (80's by Eric Foster).
I have the "land" version it came from, the "Autopulse 1".
To be brutally honest, I'm not that impressed with it.
It's good, but the design is getting on in years.
It's manufactured here in the U.K. in Wales so you may have issues if it needs repair.
I don't know much about the Fisher, but at least it should be much easier to get advice/ support and acessories for it.
Hope this helps!
