in Mariposa county...two Quartz veins on public land **no gold in them (yet!)  However specimens are not only  great for the collector/rockhound BUT they are so nice, clusters etc, that w/some cleaning, I've sold to stores locally.  and i've barely harvested the veins.   --  willing to share w/ 1 or 2 people  (message me if interested)

Rusty Nail,

I 'll answer that question... it's in the center of California at the foot of the sierra nevada mountains. Mariposa county contains Yosemite Valley and is east of Merced, California and is well noted for it's gold..

Yep, it's a nice place Gary Zenz  but nothing like Poway. It is about a 7 hr drive from Poway. The whole hwy 49 corridor from north to south is primarily noted for the mother lode but Mariposa is truly one place the still produces placer gold. At the other end of the 49, they still have the Allegheny mine (near Nevada City) which is one of the largest mines still working in California. And it is beautiful scenery also. Coloma Gold
