I am new to this but love metal detecting.  Is there any good spots in Spokane or Cheney Wa. that anyone knows of that could be fun for a beginner.

Welcome from Arizona.    We have a whole lot of suggestions in our Beginners board.  As a general rule you are looking for any place where people were likely to loose coins and similar stuff --especially if the area was used a long time ago.   One good place to start is the strip of land between the sidewalk and the street.  One world of warning---even though this is public right of way, it isn't worth getting into a heated debate with the owner of the adjacent property who probably thinks he/she owns that strip also (especially since he/she mows the grass and does all the other maintenance).
