Welcome from Arizona

When your grandfather found the Japanese sword and Japanese helmet, he found more treasure than most of your countrymen hunting for lost Japanese treasure will ever find.   And please use the word "Japanese", not "Japs ".   We are an international forum with members from around the world.   Some of them find the short version offensive and insulting.   I know you probably did not mean it that way, so please be careful in the future.

Nope, they didn't include pictures of those.   They just mentioned them in their text.

With all due respect and full knowledge that I am replying to a moderator I find it curious about the concern for the feelings of the nation of japan and its people who, in the beginning years of WWll invaded the Phillipines and laid savage waste to the nation and specifically and purposefully to its civilian population with mass murder, public beheadings and other war crimes where entire cities were intentionally "depopulated" (a polite term for butchery).. Political correctness has no place in history and if anyone has a right to identify those who attack their nation by a shortened version of their name it is the son of a survivor of that action.. their are many other derogatory terms he could have used such a "Nip" "Slope" "Dink" "Gook" or "Zipperhead" but he chose to be as respectful as he obviously was. I do understand the war is over a long time however history lives on in truth

Please, if you would, consider this in the manner it is presented.. son of a Corregidor vet as I fully expect to be barred for this post.

Now, why do you think I or any of the other moderators would bar you for your post?  As a son of a Corregidor vet, you should know how large  Corregidor is in the hearts of all Aggies.   Add to that the importance of Bataan's to members of the Arizona and New Mexico National Guard and their descendants and I assure you I am very well-versed with what happened before and after the Japanese invasion of the Phillipines.  Further, that term was the one invariably used by my grandparents for whom I have a great deal of respect.

None of that, though, nor even my personal opinion on the matter, changes the fact that a) this is an international board, and b) a significant number of our members, including many not of Japanese heritage, find the shortened version offensive.  Therefore, we ask that the term not be used.

Your message is well received and I will happily comply, the usual troubles of text communication rears its ugly head once again.. I have been on forums enough to see that banning someone for different views these days is a common occurrence.. Glad to see it is not so here.
Regards
