Hi all,
I'm new, and have been reading a lot of your stories. Love it. Saving up, to buy my first detector. Also know about an abandoned gold mine, and have permission to search there.
We'll keep you posted.

Welcome aboard from the land down under!

Just a suggestion for you here but why not get yourself a gold pan and go sweep the floor in the mine. Collect every ounce of dirt that you can into some of those 5 gallon white plastic buckets and then set down in the back yard to pan it all. I'll bet in a week of that (25 buckets or so), you'll have enough gold in the form of flour gold to buy a top of the line detector. If the mine was ever a paying mine, that's pretty much a guarantee. When gold was $35 an ounce, panning the dirt floor wasn't worth doing. Now that it's near $1200 an ounce, just think about what you have there.

Welcome aboard, Herman.

As usual GD has come up with a great suggestion.

Thanks GD, I'll try it. Apparently there are some piles of ore, brought to the surface, and never have been processed. The mine closed down quickly.

My pleasure, mate. A gold pan can set you back about $20.00 but the rewards of sweeping the dirt floor of the mine will pay off. Sweep the dirt off the walls, too. All of it will be quite easy to pan for flour gold in the comfort of a garden chair with a hot coffee at your elbow.
