Hello All,

I recentley started detecting around December 2012.  I am 37 years old, and my name is Jason.  I am still learning the hobby.  I have at the moment a Garrett Ace 350, which is a good machine but I rushed my purchase.  I am currently looking at a Minelab E-Trac, I know WOW what a step up in machines, but I want the best so I figure that was it.  So thats pretty much where I am right now, I am looking forward to learning alot more.  There isn't alot of good spots here in Arkansas but I like looking for old home sites and I have been know to just detect a plowed field.  Thanks for the great forum and happy hunting to all.

Howdy,  hawgfan, I'm already looking forward to September 28.   Anyway, welcome to THunting.com.  By the way, don't go around thinking there aren't a lot of good spots in Arkansas.   There is a lot of history in your state and it was the center of a whole lot of "wilding" through the years.   As you start digging into local and regional history looking for leads you'll find those old home sites paying off even more.

Hi hawgfan, and Welcome from Utah! I have the Ace 350 as well, and just love it! I've been using it off/on now for almost a year. I'd recommend you give that 350 a chance to prove itself and go with that for a few more months. Perhaps you'll find that ring or really valuable coin which will pay for the next detector??! City parks are a great way to get started and pick up a bunch of clad that's not too deep. If it's an older city park, you may get some coins pre 1965.
Good luck!

Hi Jason and welcome from eastern Washington state.  I also use the Ace 350 and am new to the hobby.  I only have a Bounty Hunter Pioneer 505 to comepare it to, which my partner uses.  Out of the two I would definitely choose the Ace 350.  there are tons of video's on the internet that help with the 350.  I only have one recommendation.  Get a pinpointer if you don't have one.  I got the Garrett Pro Pointer several weeks after I started and it has made my recovery time so much faster.  Anyway, Happy hunting to you as well.

Heather
