Hello Deon...believe we met a few years back while we were in Capetown...I could be wrong as I met quite a few detectorists as pierre's house. Jim in Brooklyn

more S. AFricans needed! if you want to find something, head to midmar dam in KZN - you can probably find a nice number of boats (motor and sail) on the bottom.

Go Up Go Down

Hi

I am really keen to make this a new hobby of mine, however ive been trying very hard to look for south african sites to give me some guidance to what i am allowed to do and what im not allowed to do, regarding using a metal detector.  I live in johannesburg with the magiesburg mountains right on my doorstep (cradle of humankind) But i have an idea im not really allowed to just go and start digging up things.  So i thought maybe nature trails, would i be allowed to take a metal detector and dig for things..... I thought i would try find a book of battle sites and start there.  Not even sure what detector i should start off with.  I know this is painful but i really really enjoy finding things especially old, and thought it would be something my family could partake in, kids and all.  Could someone please give me some advice on where to start, and how to go about it all legally.

Thank you

Bronwyn
