Ima 55 year old married guy living in the panhandle of Texas.  I have a Micronta 4000 I bought at Radio Shack 10 year ago and never used it.  But since I have been to sites like Kellyco looking at newer models, I'd have to say I am impressed with the features of this old detector.  You have to manually tune the electronics on start-up, and also tune the ground interference yourself.  It has a meter for ferros and nonferros, as well as two auto settings for discrimination which really aren't auto because you have a separate discrimination/sensitivity knob you can use when in the discriminating mode.  So it looks to me like although complicated, this machine will help me learn alot about how to operate a detector.  I already have a plan afoot to buy a newer, more expensive detector by getting my honey involved.  (She will need a new detector, right?)

Hey!  Excellent advice!  And if that doesn't happen soon enough, I have a friend who owns a pawn shop and has PLENTY of used rings.  Who would ever know?

I will be moving to San Antonio for a couple of months, and then on up to Idaho and Washington State.  In each place I plan on joining the local metal detector clubs because I know that is where I can find out about local laws, sites, techniques, and fellowship with other enthusiasts.  But I'm itching to get started, so then I found this place...YEA!  All the same things except done over the internet.  This will be fun and informative I'm sure.

Yeah, there's nugget hunting here, but it still ain't Texas.   I was born a Texan and I'll die a Texan no matter where I hang my hat in between.    (Besides, I dare say there are probably as many or more gold coins to find in Texas as there are in Arizona....and gold is great no matter what form it comes in).
