My name is Monty and I live on the Texas Coast not far(less than 8 miles) from where the "La Belle" was located with a magnetometer. It since, has been completely removed and is on display by the TAC. I have just finished building the Carl Moreland magnetometer and presently adjusting the sensors for balance. I'm looking forward to probing the waters around Port O'connor for possible treasures.

Hey Monty Welcome from down the coast at Galveston. Several folks here are interested in the Carl Moreland magnetometer so updates on it would be appreciated.

Thanks for the welcome gang,

If anyone knows about switching the gain mode on the Moreland please advise. The documents that came with my kit, show the pin #1 of the SCL-007 PIC held "high" (5 volts) but they did not tell me if the gain was highest or, lowest like this. I saw in another schematic on some forum that a switch could be added that pulled the pin one low to change gain modes but again didn't say which way the switch was thrown for what gain. I guess I can just make it "low" and fire for effect. Wink

Thanks,
Monty

Hi, all.... I took the fluxgate mag out into an open field yesterday and adjusted the alignment of the sensors for the first time. I was pleasently surprised that I was able to align them fairly closely in a relatively short time. I am able to detect a short piece of 3/8 in rod (approx. 15" long) from about 2-3 feet. I still have a slight change of freq with rotation so, I will give it another go soon. I have a 4 screw setup and the process is tedious. But when I make the waterproof tow fish the mag will need to be fairly quiet with movement in the waves at sea.
