Hello
I am new to the detecting world by virtue of reading many neat things found and got interested. I currently am in the military and am stationed in Japan. I would like to get hear from people regarding what type or kind of detected I should get and how to go about in starting this new adventure. Any help, tips, and/or assistance is appreciated.

First off, get the detector you can best afford. Stay away from the really low end stuff but almost all of them above the $200.00 price range are going to serve you well. Save your finds and when you can afford it, buy a top of the line machine. If you can afford it now, go for it. Buy from a company that ships to FPO/APO and wait for it to arrive by reading all the back posts on the forum.

Welcome to the forum EHGuillen
GD's advice is spot on. I would also suggest coming in contact with some of our members in Japan.
Perhaps if they are closed by, you can have a field day with them and see what metal detecting is all about.

Hi EH  I recently went through the same dilemma of which detector to buy as my first. I decided on the Garrett Ace 350.  I literally just ordered it and it is supposed to be delivered on April 26th.  I bought mine through Kellyco as GD suggested.  Best of luck picking a detector.

O HI O   Hello from CT. Used to dig old glass fishing net floats from the beaches up in Hokkaido. You should find some good places to hunt.
