Hey, Xander.   Welcome from Arizona.   You'll like that 250 once you get it.  It is a favorite of many of our members, including some very experienced ones who have a whole stable of detectors to choose from.

By the way, I split your post from the original.   It's about time the rest of our members had an opportunity to say "Howdy" to you.

Thank you very much for moving it out on its own.

I researched a lot before I decided which one to buy.  It appeared that the Ace 250 was a good solid model to start with and had many many good ratings on about 5 different sites.  It was also in my price range which helped a lot.

Welcome from Gold Country, the interior of Alaska. FAIRBANKS.

But you are in some great Gold Country too, and probably don't have 3' of snow until May.
I'm envious. It's not about the having, it's about the finding, that's the fun.

Wish I had stayed with this when I first stated over 50 years ago.
Didn't get sparked again until 3 years ago & now I have the most enthusastic partner you could imagine, my wife. She has the fever worse than I do.

Can't wait until the snow is gone so that I can dig for that yellow gold.
8 months is tooooo long to wait between seasons.

Fortunately I was able to go to the San Gabriels and the East fork to do a little prospecting in January. Found some color, wished I could have stayed more than a couple of hours.

Good hunting to you.

Thanks a bunch.  I am envious, Alaska is one of the most beautiful places I have ever seen and it didn't hurt that the fishing was outstanding too.  You can keep the bears though.

Good luck and it won't be too much longer now till you can get out.

The bears are a minor problem.
It's the moose you have to watchout for. They are 2,000 lbs of fearless meanness, they hang around our homes eating the shrubs, garden & trees. If you walk out the front door without looking you could come upon a mama moose that would charge you and could stomp you to death.
We have more attacks from moose than from bears.
1 man was stomped to death on the University campus when he walked out of the buildiong.

That's why I have to big loyal dogs whenever we go out anywhere.
They will buy us sometime to escape. My biggest dog hates moose, and he has litterally had the crap kicked out of him by a mama moose.

But we are still better off than you. I don't worry about putting on my boots or socks and finding a moose or bear in them. I don't have to check the kids or dogs for moose or bear hading in their hair after an outing. Anythuing that's going to hurt us can easily be seen or heard. And we aren't going to get sick months later from some unknown disease carried by a moose or bear bite.

In other words we don't have all thoes posinious and sneaky, bugs, spiders, snakesa nd disease carrying mosquitio's that you have. I'll take a bear or moose anytime.

ROFL, yeah but those no seeums suck.  I was in King Salmon in July and about got eaten up by the things.  Had to sleep with a blanket over my head so I didn't wake up to a bloody pillow.  I had no idea that such a small thing could cause such giant welts.  Once I got out fly fishing on the river I forgot all about them. Amazingly beautiful country.
