Hello all, new guy here. My gig is beach combing in the off season when the beaches are empty and  cache/hoard  hunting. Lots of different people came through here from the crusaders to the ottomans     to the second war and then  there are the  guerrila caches from the Greek civil war . Ive been doing it for five years now.  As far as tools, I use a long range locator and my minelab 705. And a lot of sign reading.

 Have a good one

 Im in Northern Greece.
Laws?? Whats laws. Its lawlessness over here. I dont think the law has any money for gas these days. lol

On a more serious note, the detecting laws are very strict and regulated. We have to register our detectors with the bureau of antiquities, and we cant hunt within 3 km of known ancient ruins. They dont mind if we do some beachcombing in the off hours as long as  we stay away from ancient stuff , which is hard because its everywhere.

Cache and hoard hunting is big here. We take that very seriously.

Do you have to report your finds to them are anyone for that matter?

The bureau wants to know who has detectors. I guess its like gun ownership in the states. You have to register it otherwise its illegal ownership. Even though you can walk into a detector shop and buy it, its OUR responsibility to register them.

We dont register our finds from the beaches. Thats mostly euro coinage, some wedding bands, stuff like that, But if you think you have located a hoard or cache, you have to pull a permit to dig it and that takes time over here.
On the dig day,  the agencies, antiquities, police will be present and whatever comes out,if its not categorized as ancient, the govt gets half. Anything over 250 years old as far as I know is in that category.
