Hi Mike......welcome to THunting.com.   Before you can buy a good detector, you need to decide what kind you want.....and that means figuring out what kind of hunting you are most interested in.   I'd suggest using the Advanced Search utility at the top of the page to search the entire forum for "best detector".   In the meantime, if you got access to old dumps and similar places, it is possible to start treasure hunting without a metal detector....or you could spend the time at the library reading old newspapers and books about your area written by early settlers---both of those sources will give you all sorts of good places to search.   You'll find a lot more ideas just by reading a lot of the old posts .

Good luck,

BA

Thanks all for the replies. I have not yet got the detector I need but did find treasure elsewhere. My wife and I were talking about treasure after a weekend trip to the arkansas diamond mine. She recently received a couple of tub fulls of her grandmothers junk jewelery. Was we shocked when we found out that quite a bit of it was worth well over two hundred dollars a piece. I will be posting pics some time later. I guess you never know when you will find treasure.  There was also a 1884 Morgan silver dollar. Thought that it was all pretty cool.  Mike from akansas

No matter where or how you find it, treasure is always pretty exciting.   Did y'all find anything at Crater of Diamonds?   That would count as treasure, too (as would a lot of other stones and/or fossils).

On the Crater of Diamonds. Lol. Nope. No luck. The friend I went with got extremely cold so we were there only 2 hours. Will be going again when it warms up a bit. But, did you know, Mica the mineral, makes you think you found a diamond!
