Hello Hi to All! I am new to this hobby and would appreciate any info I might be able to gather from the community about this fascinating hobby.  I'm in Texas, and know that metal detecting is not allowed in National Parks, and on some Beach areas. Could I please get some feedback from other members on the types of areas where is is OK to hunt in Texas?? (I'm in and near Austin). Also, is there a group or club in Austin I could join?  Thanks in advance for any advice!!    Marilyn  Detecting

Hey Marilyn Welcome from Galveston.

But for the National Seashore on Padre Island 99 % of Texas beach's are OK to hunt. Some towns have pasted laws about hunting parks and school yards, you just have to do a search on each city you are thinking of hunting. State Parks and Lands are a no no. If you have ant place in mine let me know I will help you get the info.

Thanks for the Welcome, FoolsGold!!   :Smiley
Thanks, Seldom!! I appreciate the quick reply.  I was thinking of searching just around the Pflugerville, area, when I start out with my new detector.  Speaking of Which.. do ya'll have any suggestions as to the best detector for a newby?  I want one that is not too heavy, and easy to configure, and use.  Really appreciate all the help!!  Cool

Here is my stock answer Garrett 250. You can buy a new one for a little over 200 from Kellyco with some extras to go with it.

Hello, Martuley.

Pflugerville has sure grown in the last 15-20 years!   You live in an area with lots of potential, especially if you can get to know people that live on some of the older home sites.

BA in Arizona

BitburgAggie:  Hi!! : ) Yes, Pflugerville  has grown quite a bit!  I've only lived up here for about 7 years...used to live in Austin (which is not that far away) I am hoping to find some neat places to hunt. Smiley

My Dad recently moved to Llano.  I have a cousin in Pflugerville, an uncle in Austin, and 2 cousins in San Antonio.   Actually I'm glad my cousins live in the Austin-San Antonio area--it means they can keep an eye on my Dad and let my brother in Houston and I know if things aren't going quite as well as he claims.
