Whites coinmaster 6000 & Fisher F5
« on: September 24, 2010, 03:21:18 pm »
Go Up Go Down

I just got back into THing after purchasing a Fisher F5.  I used a Whites Coinmaster 6000 for years and really enjoyed it.  I find that the F5 has a learning curve.  I have used it  a lot this summer, but still looking for my first silver coin.  It seems to have good depth and I have dug a lot of coins at 4" or more, but they have all been minted since1965.

I have a little trouble pinpointing with the F5.  Does anyone outhere have any tips on how to pinpoint with the F5.  By the way I live in northern Utah and would like to find anyone in this area that would like to get together for coinshooting.

Bill AKA Walkingdude.

Welcome from Australia. Come on down and I'll show you how to use it.

Any detector that does target ID has a steep learning curve so the best option that most take is to ignore it and dig all targets before you try to use the ID features. That way you get to see it and compare it later to what your machine suggested it was. Keep in mind that no matter how expensive or feature packed your detector is, there is no substitute for the human computer that resides between the headphones. Eventually you'll learn to read and understand your detector's signals faster and better than the detector does.

Thanks to all of your for the warm welcome.  I am looking forward to learning a lot about our hobby.  Thanks Gold Digger for the advise.  I suspect that the learning curve is starting to level out.  However, I have not found a silver coin with the F5 yet.  It seems to have good depth, but still no silver.  I found a lot of silver coins with the 6000.  Maybe they have all been found in my area.  I do worry that the F5 lacks sensitivity or depth.  Please reassure me.

Thanks Duc.  I am very interested in WW 2 artifacts.  I would love to come to Europe and search some of the battlefields.
