New here.  Have always wanted to get I to this but just haven't. Would like to know what suggestions anyone has for beginning detectors. Just a hobby but want something that I can use easily that can tell me more or less what I see. I would also be using at beach area so maybe something waterproof?

Hi, Gritsgal.     Welcome from Arizona.
As long as you are careful about not getting water in the control housing (i.e. confine your hunting to the dry beach or take proper precautions ) you should be able to use most modern detectors in beach areas.   (that doesn't mean they will all perform equally well).  If you use the search function at the top right and enter "best detector" or "best beginner detector" and search the entire forum, you'll find a whole lot of suggestions and things to consider.   Also, look at the Beach and Shallow Water Hunting board for more postings on hunting at the beach.

So where are you at and what drew you to this hobby (love of history, boredom, dreams of pirate treasure, etc)?

BA

Hi Gritsgal and welcome! The weight of the detector is a factor to consider as they can feel pretty heavy after awhile. Sue
