Brand new Treasure hunter here in CT living on the shore. With the Unemployment running out soon, the prospect of finding things intrigues me. I do not have a metal detector yet, and have never used one at all.
Thank you in advance for any information that you feel might help me.

When one door closes a thousand open up. Don't give up hope. The man upstairs is watching out for you.
Detecting will get your mind off of stress.
Once when some reorganizing was being done at the place I was working, I went detecting and was asked if that was what I did for a living.
I told them that I was a teacher that was going to be placed wherever they could find a place for me. I was asked if I would be interested in working at that school by the principal. I worked there for the last 13 yrs of my teaching career. It was the best school that I had ever taught. I was treated with respect and even had second thoughts about retiring.
Keep your chin up and things will go in your direction.
Get you a cheap detector to start out with. Then escalate as time goes on and you get more experience and the finds add up.
 HH

Hello Handyman, welcome to THunting.com.   You'll find lots of helpful tips and advice just by scanning the Beginners board and the Metal Detecting in General board.   If you have specific questions, you can use the search function at the top of the page (most of the time you will want to select "search entire forum").   If you can't find the answers or want some additional information, just ask---someone will probably either know the answer or know where to look (unless you're asking where a specific treasure is in which case you may still get an answer, but...... Grin don't count on finding the pot of gold when you get there  Grin )

Thanks very much! I am thinking it will be like that movie - "Fools Gold" as I am also looking for a woman. LOL Smiley
I am only guessing - are you from Texas and retired in AZ? If so, where? My Dad lives in Green Valley, 30 minutes south of Tucson. He and Mom retired there, I was raised in Houston.

Although I am a Longhorn fan, my brother is an Aggie. He also lives in AZ and is a supervisor in the border patrol.

Talk to you later, and thanks again.

Hello Handyman....yeah I'm from Texas and I live in Arizona, but I'm not retired yet.   When I do, it will be back home to Texas for me (unless I figure out a way to move back there sooner).

By the way, there are plenty of Treasure hunting things you can do even before you get a metal detector (besides doing research).  Good places to start when you don't have a detector are bottle hunting and "screening" for relics at old dump sites.   You should be able to find tips for both by using the search function.

Hello.  Do you have a specific item that you would like to find? Gold, coins, jewelery, etc.  You may not have determined that yet, but I am just curious.  I prefer coinshooting myself, but finding gold rings gold itself isn't something that I would complain about!!

Thanks again for getting me back in with the password.
Is there a place here to buy used metal detectors?

Handyman Welcome back.

Is there a place here to buy used metal detectors?

You not going to like the answer.      EBAY.  Don't know what kind of money you got to spend but Kellyco would be the best place to start looking.
