Found this site at lunchtime, decided it looked like a great site.

Used to be really serious about metal detecting, but had family things take me away for a few years.
Bought a new Whites Prizm 6T last year and really starting to get the ol bug again. Grin

Thanks BA.  Going to scout out some sites tommorrow. One is a really old picnic ground adjacent to the early 1900's Interurban train line. If I can secure permission, I know it will produce some nice finds for quite some time.  Pass by the area regularly I have never seen anyone hunting it.

Hopefully the landowner will be open to allowing it.  Since I have two detectors, I'll see if he is interested in hunting along side me. Another option is sharing finds.  Grin

Hooking the landowner on the hobby is definitely a great ideas.   Just by offering you're showing you have nothing to hide, and if he takes you up on it, he'll get to see that metal detecting can be done in a way that's respectful of his property.  Even if he says no to hunting with you, I think he'll probably be more open to letting you hunt using that approach.

Good thinking and an excellent tip for the newbies or anyone who has a tough time figuring out how to approach landowners for permission.

BA

You don't have to let family get in the way. Bring them along. My wife likes to take along pastels and a drawing pad to while away part of a nice day out. She always has a book and her music along. She enjoys the outdoors. As to the kids, they're all grown but in the past, I got my grandkids interested by salting a playground sand pit with a few "treasures" for them to dig. Instant treasure hunters who follow me around like little digging machines when I take them out.

It's all about that moment when metal that hasn't seen the light of day for generations frees itself from the soil and presents itself to me.
