Go Up Go Down

Hello everyone! I'm new to this site and new to metal detecting I just got an Ace 250 On Thursday. Went to the beach this weekend to try it out not a very good day . I searched the dry sand for about 3 hours found 3 memorial penny's, 20+ pull tabs, 3 match box cars (my 5 year old was excited they were for him). Then I searched the wet sand for about 30mins took the ACE 250 down to 2 bars sensitivity and still was going crazy. I did find 1 memorial penny though. I'm at a loss on where to metal detect though like where is it against the law to hunt? Where are some good sites to hunt in Hillsborough County. All the old Forts and Ghost towns seem to be state property and you can not metal detect in them . Anyways I'm still learning and researching on where and how to metal detect any tips or info would be great. If anyone is in or around Hillsborough County Florida shoot me a message.

Hi Biju, welcome to the forum. I live in Pinellas County and its legal to hunt in state parks. Just go to the park ranger and fill out a form. Hillsboro River state park is a good place. Also Clearwater Beach. Check out this link:

It shows where Hernando DeSoto marched through Hillsboro county and his camp sites.

Howdy Biju02,

Welcome to THunting.com.  salvor6 gave you very good information.  When you fill out the form, the park ranger will let you know which areas are open to metal detecting and which are not.  (At least that's the way Ft DeSoto was set up a couple of years ago.)
I'd also recommend joining a metal detector club if you have not already done so.

Go Up Go Down

So I went out again today after work to a old church down the road from us. I found 1 memorial penny piece of a beer can and a 3 inch piece of copper tubing. I guess I should be happy that I at least found something:). Thank you for all the feed back so far as for a metal detecting club there is one over in St.Petersburg that meets on a weekday and its an hour ride. There is also another one about 3 hours away you would think there would be some in Tampa as big as it is. If anyone near or around Tampa would like to go out on a weekend and teach a newb send me a message.
